Illustrating for Kate Bush | The Sketchbook

Timorous Beasties were delighted to collaborate once again with Kate Bush on a series of original, reimagined illustrations for her iconic Grammy nominated album Hounds of Love, The Dreaming, and the redesign of the Fish People logo.

This latest collaboration sees Hounds of Love (Baskerville Edition) and The Dreaming (Escapologist Edition) re-envisioned through a new visual lens, with completely original artwork created in close dialogue with Kate. Each illustration explores the emotional and mythic landscapes of the albums, from the unsettling, dreamlike worlds of The Dreaming to the symbolic clarity and narrative rhythm of Hounds of Love.

Founded by Paul Simmons and Alistair McAuley, the Glasgow-based studio Timorous Beasties brought their distinctive illustrative language to the project, translating Kate’s vivid conceptual ideas into richly detailed, hand-drawn compositions. The resulting artwork bridges music and visual storytelling, offering fans a fresh yet deeply considered way of engaging with these seminal records.

A central element of the project was the evolution of the Fish People identity. Working with renowned graphic artist and type designer Jonathan Barnbrook, the team developed a new logo and bespoke typographic universe for Kate’s label. The lettering draws on the idea of a mythical civilisation hinted at within hidden areas of Kate’s official website, extending Fish People beyond a name into a layered, playful mythology, complete with subtle typographic easter eggs for fans to discover.
