Our Indie Wood wallpaper adorns the dining room atrium at the Meikleour Arms, where its rich woodland pattern of red squirrels, owls and woodpeckers sits amongst trailing flora and foliage. The design reflects the natural beauty of the estate that surrounds the hotel, creating an immersive setting where guests can dine alongside the creatures of the forest.
Owner Claire Mercer Nairne knew from the very beginning that Indie Wood would be the perfect choice for the space.
“Before we even built the atrium, I knew which wallcovering we would go for. We are surrounded by beautiful woods, and our guests love eating with the beasties of the forest!”
The team selected the pearl finish, which adds a warm and intimate glow in the evening while catching the natural daylight throughout the day. The effect enhances the intricate flora and fauna of the design, allowing the woodland scene to subtly shift in mood as the light changes.
The interior styling was kept intentionally natural to complement the pattern. Wood textures, moss elements and sustainable taxidermy sourced from the estate grounds help reinforce the connection to the surrounding landscape.
Claire explains:
“The wall lights are from David Hunt and they just fit in so well with Indie Wood. There was no need to add anything — your wallpaper did the magic.
We just styled the room with natural wood and moss elements and some sustainable taxidermy (they all had a good life on Meikleour Estate and died naturally).”
Indie Wood is a dense, nature-inspired pattern festooned with flora and fauna, all beautifully drawn and coloured by hand. In a typical Timorous Beasties twist, the sylvan scene also features insects such as beetles and moths, introducing a slightly darker dimension to the idyllic woodland narrative.
The detailed design is digitally printed onto a linen textile, making it an atmospheric way to bring the outdoors inside — perfectly suited to a place so deeply connected to its surrounding forest.
