The work read like a wink to anyone used to the market's smells and rituals - at once playful, slightly provocative, and utterly of a piece with the Beasties' knack for turning the familiar grotesque or uncanny through pattern.
The 'Food With Thought' exhibition turned the food hall into a stage for design, inviting makers to riff on market culture. Timorous Beasties chose to hang two large fabric banners from the market's steel rafters so that shoppers had to look up - the designs forced a subtle shift in perspective: what you usually walk beneath became the centre of attention.
The banners sat alongside interventions by other designers including Tracy Kendall, Salt, Loophouse and Kay+Stemmer, creating a lively curated conversation between food, craft and pattern.
