Pattern With Presence
At Timorous Beasties, pattern is more than decoration; it’s storytelling. For Mar Hall, a place steeped in history, a selection of designs from across our portfolio were chosen to balance respect for the past with a touch of boldness.
The walls feature pieces like Golden Oriole and Bloomsbury Garden, with their delicate printed birds and tangled vines, alongside the expressive, ink-splatter energy of Omni Splatt. Textured cork-effect wallpaper Temples in the Sky adds subtle depth, while rich velvets and finely woven linens such as Opera Botanica and Tropical Clouded Leopard introduce softness and warmth against the building’s solid architecture.
This isn’t about overwhelming the space but adding character. These patterns hold their own alongside the grandeur of 19th-century design, yet still feel alive and relevant today.

Made in Glasgow
Timorous Beasties and Mar Hall are just a few miles apart along the River Clyde. One is a grand 19th-century manor rich in history while the other is a Glasgow-based studio known for creating bold, detailed patterns that challenge the ordinary. Despite their different origins, both share a strong sense of character and place.
Our work spans traditional hand-printing techniques and digital methods. Some designs rely on one or the other while others combine both to create pieces that are precise, intricate and full of personality.
This flexibility allows our patterns to complement a wide range of settings from contemporary interiors to historic spaces like Mar Hall. The textures and stories of the building bring a new dimension to our prints while our designs bring a fresh energy to the heritage around them.

Heritage Meets Pattern
This collaboration brings together two distinct legacies, historic architecture and expressive print, with results that feel both grounded and unexpected. It's a quiet clash of eras, made cohesive through attention to detail and a shared sense of place.
Thanks to Graven and Align Partners for bringing our work into the mix as part of Mar Hall’s transformation.
