Princes Square isn't just another shopping centre - it is a cultural landmark. A luxury dining and shopping destination in the heart of Glasgow's city centre, the building is housed within a Grade B listed structure, a jewel of Victorian architecture and craft. Its place in the public's imagination sealed in 2016, when it was voted 'Scotland's Favourite Building' by members of the public.
To work on such an icon required vision, care and no shortage of creative energy. MacKay, whose sculptural works are woven into Glasgow's streetscape, brings an enduring sense of form and artistry. Timorous Beasties, with our love of bold ornament and fearless pattern, bring a contemporary energy to match.

The craftsmanship itself is a story worth telling. Taking inspiration from the faded grandeur of Glasgow’s Victorian businesses and emulating the foliage that emerges from neglected historical landmarks around Scotland, the design evokes a sense of both history and renewal. The tailing leaves were produced in powder aluminium and moulded on site by Kenny MacKay, blending hand-crafted tradition with modern techniques.
The result is a façade that marries heritage with innovation – sculptural permanence with decorative daring. It’s a conversation between tradition and modernity, rooted in Glasgow’s DNA yet unafraid to push boundaries.

“Working with Ali gave a new dimension to our design aspirations for the refurbishment as well as helping to overcome the not inconsiderable task of satisfying planning and heritage concerns on a listed building within Glasgow’s showpiece shopping street. The finished installation catches the eye, attracts attention and arouses curiosity and is a beautiful, sensitive and timeless addition to one of Glasgow’s landmarks"
